Purpose of the Foundation

Building a
better future.

UN-Zeichen Nachhaltigkeit The Peter Möhrle Foundation is deeply committed to all issues connected to the “Global mental health crisis". The United Nations Sustainable Development Agenda, a global blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all, added the “Health and Well-being” goal to their Agenda in 2018. For good reason; people, especially children, with mental disorders are at risk of becoming victims of legal abuse and violations. The mental health laws are based on the fundamental objective of protecting, promoting and improving the living conditions and mental wellbeing of citizens. However, health challenges remain high. Improving people's health is, therefore, one of our most important tasks.

The Foundation was established in 2007 by Peter Möhrle and dedicates itself to the promotion of the following issues:

  • Science and Research
  • Youth and elderly support
  • Arts and Culture
  • Education and training
  • Marriage and family protection
  • Crime prevention
  • Democratic polity, policy and politics
  • Civic engagement for charitable, benevolent and ecclesial purposes

Community Resilience Network: because
resilience grows in relationships.

The story began in 2016 when the Peter Möhrle Foundation, together with the University Medical Center Hamburg, initiated CORESZON – a Community Resilience Network. CORESZON connects and empowers people in distressed communities to provide skills training and facilitate mutual support. With a peer-to-peer, competence-based approach, this project aims to change the conversation about mental health.

CORESZON works together with diverse communities to collect, develop and share practical knowledge and simple skills that help the nervous system recover from stress. Our objective is to strengthen the most powerful medicine against mental illness: positive relationships between parents and children, neighbors, and entire communities.

Passion, 20 cents and an
old soccer ball. That’s all it needed.

Kennedy Odede lived for 23 years in the Kibera Slum, the largest slum in Africa, where he experienced the devastating realities of life in extreme poverty first hand. He dreamed about helping his community and managed to save 20 cents to buy and old soccer ball and start Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) in 2004.

Three years later, Kennedy met Jessica Posner, a bright American student studying abroad. Together they devised the model that SHOFCO utilizes today. Kennedy and Jessica’s partnership is a unique, pioneering alliance in the field of international development.

SHOFCO is a grassroots movement that catalyses large-scale transformation in urban slums by providing critical services for all, community advocacy platforms, and education and leadership development for women and girls. SHOFCO puts the interests of children first, which is why the Peter Möhrle Foundation became a proud partner to the organisation in 2017.
